PRODUCTION INTERN (for college credit only)

Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), an internationally recognized presenter of contemporary performing arts and cinema, seeks an intern for the Production Department. The Production Intern will assist the Production Department in all aspects of the day to day production and presentation of main stage, ancillary and other programming by BAM or on BAM's premises, as assigned. The intern must be able to work irregular hours including frequent weekend and evening hours (approximately 20 hours per week).

This internship runs from September 2009 until December 2009/January 2010.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the Coordination of scheduling work calls with Local 4 & Local 764 union crews.
  • Participate in the purchasing and/or acquisition of production related materials.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of cost effective budgets and schedules for projects.
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of production and technical schedules to departments affiliated with presentations at BAM including, but not limited to: Executive Management, General Management, Artist Services, Union crews, Building Operations and presenting Departments (i.e. Education and Humanities and Cinematek).
  • Source and acquire production related materials.
  • Participate in the management of rehearsals, load-ins, technical rehearsals, performances and strikes for the productions.
  • Report, in writing, on the production of main stage, ancillary and other programming by BAM or on BAM's premises to be distributed within BAM, as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Enrollment in a technical theatrical degree program
  • Two years appropriate technical theatrical work experience
  • Ability to manage expenditures and budgets.
  • Ability to create schedules and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint, AutoCAD and Vectorworks
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and other technical materials as well as create simple technical plans
  • Ability to prioritize goals and implement plans; self motivated.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to solve problems and resolve conflict; strong analytical skills.
  • Willing to assist others and work in a team setting
Remuneration*:
*This internship is only available for college credit (at 20 hours per week)
