The Play Company

General Management and Producing Internships, (New York, NY) - posted Friday, September 12, 2008

The Play Company is seeking general management and producing interns for the Fall of 2008 and Spring of 2009. We are an Obie Award-winning off-Broadway theatre for new writing that develops and produces adventurous plays from all over the world. We have presented plays from England, Japan, Russia, India, Northern Ireland, Germany, France, and Romania, as well as the United States. This winter and spring we will be producing a play from Scotland, as well as presenting events in our New Work/New World Series and hosting our yearly gala.

These positions are ideal for theatre-focused students and recent graduates who seek hands-on, practical experience in professional theatre and have an interest in new plays. Interns will provide assistance to us in various aspects of producing, including general management, marketing, event planning, dramaturgical research, literary management and fundraising. They will also have an opportunity to read scripts as times allows, if interested. They should expect to work on a mix of immediate administrative tasks that come up on a daily or weekly basis, and also on longer-term projects.

We are a small, not-for-profit company and our interns work closely with the Founding Producing and Managing Producers, as well as senior staff. Applicants should be bright, responsible, detail-oriented individuals with good writing and organizational skills and a solid knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Database, website and graphic software knowledge is a plus, as is any knowledge of foreign language or culture. Minimum commitment is 15 hours per week. Academic credit available. Monthly Unlimited Metrocard provided to interns with a commitment of 20 hours per week. To apply, please email Melissa Hardy at Mhardy@playco.org with your resume and references.
