PERFORMANCE APPRENTICESHIP WITH THE CIVILIANS:
The Civilians, the Off Broadway artist-driven company that produced Gone Missing (Barrow Street), Paris Commune (PublicLAB), and This Beautiful City (Humana, Studio Theatre, Center Theatre Group, Vineyard Theatre) is currently accepting applications for performance apprentices for its next piece currently titled The Atlantic Yards Project.
Apprentices will facilitate and participate in The Civilians unique investigative process. Led by artistic director Steven Cosson, a diverse group of professional actors, designers, and apprentices will immerse themselves in the neighborhoods adjacent to the Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn. They will conduct interviews, participate in community life, observe public space, residences and business, and gain an intimate understanding of what makes up this part of the city. The material
gathered in this in-depth, long-term investigation will eventually be formed into a new full-length work.
Apprentices should be current students or recent graduates of a university program and their studies/interests/skills should be performance-based.
Performers of color are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants must be available at least 20hrs/week during the months of October and November 2008.
