Stephen Gabis
STEPHEN GABIS recently coached Brighton Beach Memoirs and Memphis on Broadway. Off-Broadway, he coached The Emperor Jones for the Irish Rep. Among his many Broadway and Off-Broadway credits are Guys and Dolls, Shrek, The 39 Steps, Boeing Boeing (for replacements and understudies), The Farnsworth Invention, Coram Boy, Butley, 110 in the Shade, Jersey Boys (all companies, including London; Toronto; and Melbourne, Australia), Doubt, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Stuff Happens, all of the Mike Leigh plays for the New Group, Steel Magnolia, Faith Healer, Sixteen Wounded, Port Authority, A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, Heartbreak House, The Women, Frozen, and Present Laughter. He has also worked for 11 seasons at the Williamstown Theatre Festival where he coached Maria Aitken's production of Quartermaine's Terms this past summer. Among his film assignments have been Salt, The 13, Doubt (for Phillip Seymour Hoffman), The Savages, Bernard and Doris(for Ralph Fiennes), Across the Universe, Dark Matter, The Notorious Bettie Page, and Boys Don't Cry (for Chloe Sevigney). As an actor, Stephen spent 8 seasons at the Barter Theatre (the state theatre of Virginia). He toured Ireland and the East Coast of America with the O'Casey Theatre Company. He appeared in productions at Williamstown, Cleveland Playhouse, Philadelphia Drama Guild, the Actor's Studio Free Theatre, and Indiana Repertory. Most recently he appeared in Nicholas Martin's award winning production of The Corn is Green starring Kate Burton at the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston.
