Glenn Close
GLENN CLOSE made her professional theater and Broadway debut in the New Phoenix Repertory Company's Love for Love in 1974. In 1980, she was nominated for a Tony Award for Barnum, and went on to win Tonys for The Real Thing and Death and the Maiden, both directed by Mike Nichols, and Sunset Boulevard. Other theatre work includes Benefactors, Uncommon Women and Others, Rex, Uncle Vanya, The Crucifer of Blood and The Rose Tattoo. In 2002, she played Blanche for Trevor Nunn in A Streetcar Named Desire at the Royal National Theater. Close served as executive producer and won an Emmy Award for her 1995 performance as Col. Margarethe Cammermeyer in Serving in Silence, which also garnered a Peabody Award and Golden Globe nomination. She was recently Emmy nominated for her performance in Showtime's The Lion in Winter, having been nominated five times previously for roles in In the Gloaming, Something About Amelia, Will and Grace, Skylark and Sarah Plain and Tall (for which she also received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations as executive producer). In 2005 Ms. Close joined the cast of FX's groundbreaking drama The Shield and received another Emmy Nomination. She was Oscar nominated as Best Supporting Actress for her film debut, The World According to Garp, receiving additional Best Supporting Actress nominations for The Big Chill and The Natural and Best Actress nominations for Fatal Attraction and Dangerous Liaisons. Other films include: Hamlet, Reversal of Fortune, Air Force One, 101 (and 102) Dalmations, The Stepford Wives, Heights, Chumscrubbers, and Nine Lives. She received a 2001 Crystal Award from Women in Film for her distinguished acting career and a 2003 IFP Gotham Award for her contributions to the New York independent filmmaking community. She will next be seen on screen in Evening co-starring Meryl Streep which is scheduled to be released in 2007.
